Rahi is a motorcycle trip-planning app for India. Planning a ride means the app sees where you are and where you are going. This page says exactly what is collected, why it exists, who else it reaches, and how to get rid of it.
The short version. Rahi has no ads, no analytics, and no tracking SDKs of any kind. It cannot see your location when the app is closed. Live location shared on a team ride is deleted when the ride ends. Voice is never recorded. Nothing is sold to anybody.
Who is responsible
Rahi is operated by the developer of the app, contactable at privacy@rahiride.com. For the purposes of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we are the Data Fiduciary for the information described below.
What Rahi collects
| Data | Why it exists | Where it is kept |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | To sign you in and let you reset your password. That is the whole account. | Firebase Authentication |
| Trips you plan | Start, destination, stops, distance, estimated cost — so a plan survives closing the app. | Cloud Firestore, under your user ID |
| Your motorcycles | Model, tank size and mileage, so range and fuel figures are about your bike. | Cloud Firestore, under your user ID |
| Refuel logs | To learn your bike's real mileage instead of trusting the brochure. | Cloud Firestore, under your user ID |
| Documents you add | RC, insurance, PUC and licence details you choose to store, with expiry reminders. | Cloud Firestore, under your user ID |
| Saved places & preferences | Places you keep, and settings like theme and units. | Cloud Firestore, under your user ID |
| Live location, during a team ride only | So riders on the same ride can see each other on one map. | Firebase Realtime Database, deleted when the ride ends |
Rahi does not collect your name, phone number, contacts, photos library, advertising identifier, or a history of where you have been.
Permissions, and what each is actually for
Location
Used to place you on the map, follow you during navigation, drive the speedometer, and — only during a team ride — show your position to the other riders on that ride.
Rahi has no background location access. The
ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION permission is explicitly blocked in
the app's manifest, so the app cannot read your position when it is closed or
in the background. Location stops the moment you leave the screen using it.
Microphone
Used for push-to-talk voice between riders on the same team ride, and only while you are holding the talk button. Audio travels directly between riders' phones. It is never recorded, never stored, and never sent to us.
Camera
Used only if you choose to photograph a document to keep in the app.
Nearby Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Used to find other riders' phones directly when there is no mobile network, so voice keeps working off the grid. These are used for device-to-device connection only — not to determine your location, and not for advertising.
Who else your data reaches
Rahi relies on these services. No one else receives your information.
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Realtime Database, Cloud Functions) — stores your account and your trips. Firebase privacy
- Google Maps Platform (Maps, Places, Routes) — searching for places and calculating routes sends the relevant search text and coordinates to Google. Google privacy
- MET Norway — weather along your route, from coordinates.
- OpenStreetMap, Nominatim and OSRM — map data, address lookup and routing, used as a fallback and for offline maps.
- Wikimedia — motorcycle photographs shown in the bike section.
There is no advertising network, no analytics provider, and no data broker in that list, because Rahi does not use any.
Team rides and location sharing
- Your live location is shared only with riders who are on the same team ride as you.
- It is shared only while that ride is active.
- When the ride ends, or you leave the team, the shared location is deleted and other riders lose access to it.
- Rahi does not keep a history of your past locations, and there is no way for another rider to see where you were before or after a ride.
- Your email address and account details are never shown to other riders.
How long it is kept
Your account and the things you created — trips, bikes, refuels, documents, saved places — are kept until you delete them or delete your account. Live team location is deleted as soon as the ride ends.
Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can:
- ask what personal data of yours is held, and get a copy of it;
- correct anything inaccurate;
- delete your account and the data with it — from inside the app, or by writing to us;
- withdraw a permission at any time in your phone's settings (the related feature simply stops working);
- raise a grievance with us, and escalate to the Data Protection Board of India if we do not resolve it.
Write to privacy@rahiride.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Children
Rahi is built for licensed motorcycle riders and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has an account, write to us and we will remove it.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections and is stored in Google's infrastructure, with access rules that permit each rider to read and write only their own data — and, during a ride, only the live positions of the team they are actually on. No system is perfectly secure, but nothing is stored that we do not need.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected or who it reaches, the date at the top changes and the app will tell you.
