Most of the best riding in India happens where the network isn't. Rahi is built for those stretches rather than apologising for them.

Voice

A walkie-talkie that needs no tower

Hold the button, speak, let go. When there's a network, your voice goes over it. When there isn't, the phones find each other directly — no pairing, no SIM, no Wi-Fi router — and riders in between pass it further down the line.

That relay is what gives it reach. Every rider in the group is a repeater, so a line of riders covers far more road than any two phones could on their own.

How it decides

You never pick a mode. Rahi does, and it changes as you ride.

Step 1

Network, if there is one

With a real connection, voice goes rider-to-rider over the internet. Clearest, and unlimited range.

Step 2

Phone to phone, if not

Lose signal and the phones connect directly to each other. No setup, no pairing screen — it just changes underneath you.

Step 3

Through the riders between

Too far apart to reach directly? Anyone riding in between carries it. Four hops of riders is a long line of road.

Being straight about range. Phone-to-phone distance depends on terrain more than anything else — open highway carries much further than a forest ghat with a hill in between. Riders in a group are usually well within it, and the relay covers the rest. Nobody should plan a ride on the assumption that a phone reaches several kilometres by itself.

Offline maps

The map you'll actually use

Downloading "Karnataka" to ride to Chikmagalur wastes gigabytes on places you'll never see. Rahi saves the corridor along your route instead — the roads you're taking, plus enough either side for a detour.

  • Saved before you leave, on Wi-Fi, in the trip you already planned.
  • Navigation keeps working with the data off entirely.
  • Sized to the route — a 150 km ride is tens of megabytes, not gigabytes.

What still needs a connection

Because a page that claims everything works offline is lying to you.

  • Planning a new route — routing and place search need to reach a server. Plan before you lose signal; the plan then rides with you.
  • Weather updates — fetched when you plan, and again whenever signal returns.
  • Seeing your team on the map — live positions travel over the network. Voice keeps working when it stops; the map pauses until signal returns.
  • Everything else — navigation on saved maps, voice, the speedometer, your trips, your documents.
